Nuyorican singer-songwriter Nomi Ruiz grew up on a heavy dose of Hip Hop, Freestyle, Pop and House Music. Her debut album, ‘Lost In Lust’, a gritty blend of Hip-Hop, R&B and Soul put her in line with a movement of artists who have changed the landscape of contemporary music. Her voice was compared to Sade, George Michael & Janet Jackson and she rose to prominence in the Electronic Dance scene after appearing on Hercules & Love Affair’s debut album.
She continued to venture into Electronic music under the name Jessica 6 and combined Electronic Dance with her natural R&B/Soul stylings on the first J6 album ’See The Light’. Academy Award nominee ANOHNI appeared on the song ‘Prisoner Of Love’. Her song ‘White Horse’ reached over 2 million hits on YouTube and was featured in campaigns for Paris Look Book in Chile, Vogue Magazine in France and in the US for a Thierry Mugler campaign which Ruiz also starred in. Ruiz has since performed for the likes of Dior Homme, NARS, Steven Klein, Tiffany & Co and Tommy Hilfiger.
The sophomore J6 album ‘The Capricorn’, produced by House & Techno DJ's from across the globe including Eli Escobar, Keinemusik's Rampa and more, was called “seductive, dark, smart, and as catchy as Miss Jackson's greatest hits” by i-D Magazine. Noisey declared “her first release since 2011 is a banger!”
Her voice can be heard in the latest Ralph Lauren fragrance campaign for 'Romance' on a song titled 'Divine Love' written by collaborator Oli Chang aka Animal Feelings. Her latest single 'The Storm Inside', was called "the most poignantly powerful track we've heard so far in 2018" by BlackBook.
Nomi has also been out spoken about transgender discrimination in the music industry and has shared her story with i-D Magazine, Huff Post Live, V-Magazine and more. She continues to inspire through her work as a songwriter and author, publishing intimate essays and poems on feminism, sex, romance and gender identity in books by Emely Nue of Pussy Riot, Jezebel, The Fader and more.
